Hello. Thanks for Tango - I appreciate the plugin.

I'm trying to troubleshoot issues with the bbpress post toolbar plugin. Ideally, I'd like to replace the toolbar's special smiley function with Tango but even if not, I've found if Tango has ever been enabled on the site (Multisite), the Smiley button on the bbPress Post Toolbar won't even show up anymore regardless of my settings, even to display wp default smileys. I want to use the bbpress with a site that does have Tango and I want to keep Tango.

I have installed a test here - http://test.dixiblog.com/forums/topic/smile-me/
Tango is currently enabled, but can disable the plugin if that helps. Have also been messing with caching options since that could clearly come into play.

I would be satisfied with a workaround of having Tango enabled, leaving the toolbar's smiley panel turned off and finding a way to output it to the bbpress theme, although I'm very new to bbPress and don't exactly know how to do that, but it seems a viable workaround if I can figure it out.

I assume it's conflict related to the two plugins battling for smiley output. But don't really know where to dig to fix it. Suggestions appreciated...

Problem: MCEComments and Tango Smileys Extended, when adding buttons with a drop-down fontselect, fontsizeselect, forecolor etc, it ads the Tango Smileys button beside each one. Any ideas how to fix this without losing these options? Also if I uncheck MCEComments the smileys don't work, I had to revert back to version .2.6.5.0.
Screen-shot

Does anybody know how to get the plugin to work with the Simple Press Forum? There's a component setting in SPF that supposedly tells it to "use Wordpress smileys". Tango is supposed to "replace" the default WP smileys, so I thought that the setting would allow SPF to access the Tango smilies, but it doesn't.

Ideas anybody?

Why Tango Smileys Extended plugin doesn't have an option at it's admin area to change the images storage location to an alternative address (external images directory) like Sociable plugin does since version 3.1?
I have more than five WP installations, so that idea can solve the bandwith problem and give one address for one image at many WP installation, so the guest's browser can cache the images well, and the result is all of the websites can loaded faster.

Regards,
MossackAnme™

Whesley McCabe on "Nested (Threaded) Comments and Styling"

Since WordPress 2.7, a function has been made available to nest comments as threads. What's great is that WordPress takes care of all of the major parts of nesting comments, and gives the admins the ability to fully style each comment with CSS.

The only thing you have to do is modify your theme's comments.php file and replace the old loop with a single line of code:

<?php wp_list_comments('type=comment&style=div'); ?>

The rest is simple CSS.

Let's assume you have a post with comments like so:

1. I have a question (by Commenter 1)
A. I have an answer (by Post Author)
a. That answers my question (by Commenter 1)
B. I have the same question (by Commenter 2)
a. Here is the same answer I gave before (by Post Author)
I. Thank you (by Commenter 2)
2. I have a different question (by Commenter 3)
A. Here is the answer to that question (by Post Author)
B. Here is a different answer (by Registered User)
a. That is also correct (by Post Author)
b. Here are some notes on this answer (by Registered User)
C. Thank you both (by Commenter 3)
3. I just wanted to say thanks (by Commenter 4)

WordPress adds special classes to each comment depending on where it is nested in the comment list. These special classes can be referenced in your style.css file. Looking at the above layout, WordPress will use the following classes for each comment:

1. comment even thread-even depth-1 parent
A. comment byuser comment-author-{authorname} bypostauthor odd alt depth-2 parent
a. comment even depth-3
B. comment odd depth-2 parent
a. comment byuser comment-author-{authorname} bypostauthor even alt depth-3 parent
I. comment odd depth-4
2. comment even alt thread-odd depth-1 parent
A. comment byuser comment-author-{authorname} bypostauthor odd depth-2
B. comment byuser comment-author-{username} even depth-2 parent
a. comment byuser comment-author-{authorname} bypostauthor odd depth-3
b. comment byuser comment-author-{username} even depth-3
C. comment odd depth-2
3. comment even thread-even depth-1

Confused yet? Here's the important stuff you should remember:

When someone posts a comment that is not a reply, it is given the class depth-1. Any reply to a depth-1 comment is given the class depth-2. Any reply to depth-2 comments is considered depth-3, and so on.

When a registered user posts a comment, the comment is given the class byuser and comment-author-user-nicename. If the user's name is Peter Pan, the class will be called comment-author-peter-pan

When the post author comments or replies, the comment is given the class bypostauthor

The classes even, odd, and alt are unpredictable, but are still useful for alternating the background colors for the comments.

Here are some examples of how to use the classes:
All top-level (depth-1) comments should have a border:

div[class~="depth-1"] { border: 1px solid black; }

All nested comments (depth-2 to depth-4 — assuming comments are limited to 4 levels deep) should be nudged to the right:

div[class~="depth-2"], div[class~=["depth-3"], div[class~=["depth-4"] { margin-left: 5px; }

All comments by Peter Pan should be lime green text on dark green background:

div[class~="comment-author-peter-pan"] { color: #00ff00; background-color: #008000; }

All comments by the post author should be yellow text on dark blue background:

div[class~="bypostauthor"] { color: #ffff00; background-color: #000080; }

All even comments should have a white background:

div[class~="even"] { background-color: #ffffff; }

All odd comments should have a light gray background:

div[class~="odd"] { background-color: #eeeeee; }

Q: How do you input each smiley?
A: There are currently two options:

CLICK TO INSERT: Click the PIGGY icon in TinyMCE while in Visual editing mode to add a smiley to your post. If CTI is enabled for comments, you simply click the smiley you want and the shorthand will be inserted into the comment box.

MANUALLY: Type the shorthand for the desired smiley. To view the shorthand for each smiley, please check here and click the desired smiley.

Q: How do I add support for CTI for comments to my theme?
A: If your theme does not already support automatically adding the CTI interface for comments, though most themes do, you may add support by following these instructions:

Open the comments.php file for your theme and look for the text
<?php do_action('comment_form', $post->ID) ?>

If the text is missing, locate your comment textarea which should be something like
<textarea name="comment" id="comment"></textarea>
and add
<?php do_action('comment_form', $post->ID); ?>
either above or below the textarea. Wherever you add this line, the CTI scrollbox will appear.

Q: How do I add the CTI interface to any textarea?
A: In the event you have a custom textarea - for whatever reason (i.e. another plugin) - you can add the CTI interface to that textarea. Unfortunately, though you will be able to easily insert the smiley shorthand to a custom textarea, additional modification may be necessary for the inserted shorthand to be converted to graphical smileys.

You can use the function
<?php tse_cti_anywhere( 'target', OUTPUT ); ?>
where 'target' is the ID of the textarea you are using and OUTPUT is boolean TRUE or FALSE. Simply add the provided function wherever you want the clickable smileys to appear.

Set OUTPUT to TRUE to echo the CTI smileys to the page, and FALSE to use the output of the function in a variable.

'target' defaults to 'comment' if not set.

OUTPUT defaults to TRUE if not set.

Q: How do you change the spacing between the CTI smileys?
A: There are two properties that can affect the spacing of the CTI smileys. Depending on your theme, you may need to modify one or both properties to change the spacing. To be safe, you should plan on modifying both by inserting the following code at the end of your theme's style.css file.

#tseCTIsmileys-comment img {
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 1px;
}

If you want to increase the spacing, leave the margin set to 0px and increase the padding.

Q: I see the smileys, but nothing happens when I click them. How do I fix it?
A: There are a couple of things that can cause the smileys to not be clickable. The first is simple, and the other problems and solutions require basic knowledge of HTML.

MCEComments is enabled: Unless you are using the MCEComments plugin, there is no reason to have MCEComments enabled for Tango Smileys Extended. Open the TSE Options page and make sure MCEComments is unchecked. Even if it looks unchecked, click Update Options anyway.

Wrong ID: Tango Smileys Extended finds the comment textarea by looking for its ID, which is almost always comment. If your comment textarea has an ID other than comment, then TSE can't find it. You should check your theme's comments.php file to make sure the textarea has an ID of comment. If the ID is not comment, then change it. It should look something like this:

<textarea name="comment" id="comment" rows="10" columns=""></textarea>

Invalid HTML: Valid HTML requires that no two elements have the same ID. Unfortunately, sometimes theme authors forget to check IDs before creating a new element, and the new element will have the same ID as an existing element. The textarea for the comment form will almost always have an ID of comment, so if another element on the page is given an ID of comment then TSE will not work. The easiest way to check for this is to load a post on your site and view the source. You should search for id="comment". If you find more than one (which should be the comment textarea), then you need to edit your theme and change the conflicting element.

Hello, I love the selection of smilies in this plugin, however there's a green border that looks very odd around each one. Is there some way to make these blend a bit more seamlessly with my posts? Thank you.

Faviconize is a very simple plugin, so I don't see anyone having an issue. BUT, if you do have an issue, feel free to post!

It's odd that bbPress does not come with built-in bbcode support. I guess I'll have to write my own plugin.

Until I get my bbcode plugin to automatically output which bbcode tags are supported, I'll have to include the following as a reference:

[b]text[/b]
This text is bold.

[u]text[/u]
This text is underlined.

[s]text[/s]
Sometimes you need to delete strike text.

[strike]text[/strike]
Sometimes you need to delete strike text.

[quote]text[/quote]

This text is quoted.

[blockquote]text[/blockquote]

This text is quoted.

[url]http://www.google.com/[/url]
Here's a link to Google: http://www.google.com/

[url=http://www.google.com/]Google[/url]
Here's a link to Google.
