fyi, I've asked the author of the bbpress post toolbar about it here - http://master5o1.com/topic/working-with-tango-extended-smileys-plugin/

And wondering if I have to do anything to Tango to make it accessible in a bbpress 2.0 (plugin) installation of forums. Any assistance you can offer would be appreciated.

Hello. Thanks for Tango - I appreciate the plugin.

I'm trying to troubleshoot issues with the bbpress post toolbar plugin. Ideally, I'd like to replace the toolbar's special smiley function with Tango but even if not, I've found if Tango has ever been enabled on the site (Multisite), the Smiley button on the bbPress Post Toolbar won't even show up anymore regardless of my settings, even to display wp default smileys. I want to use the bbpress with a site that does have Tango and I want to keep Tango.

I have installed a test here - http://test.dixiblog.com/forums/topic/smile-me/
Tango is currently enabled, but can disable the plugin if that helps. Have also been messing with caching options since that could clearly come into play.

I would be satisfied with a workaround of having Tango enabled, leaving the toolbar's smiley panel turned off and finding a way to output it to the bbpress theme, although I'm very new to bbPress and don't exactly know how to do that, but it seems a viable workaround if I can figure it out.

I assume it's conflict related to the two plugins battling for smiley output. But don't really know where to dig to fix it. Suggestions appreciated...

Problem: MCEComments and Tango Smileys Extended, when adding buttons with a drop-down fontselect, fontsizeselect, forecolor etc, it ads the Tango Smileys button beside each one. Any ideas how to fix this without losing these options? Also if I uncheck MCEComments the smileys don't work, I had to revert back to version .2.6.5.0.
Screen-shot

After looking into the core of SPF, I've come to the unfortunate conclusion that there is no (currently) viable way to add clickable smileys from TSE automatically. All of the plugin support of SPF is hard-coded into the core, and there are very few injection points for additional actions or filters. SPF even comes with its own copy of TinyMCE, so a global plugin wouldn't work anyway. Never mind the fact that each plugin provided by SPF for TinyMCE is written into SPF, so adding another plugin would mean modifying the SPF core files.

At this time, the only suggestion I can offer is to select Custom Smileys and upload each smiley and associate it with the correct shorthand. I really do wish I could just attach my plugin to SPF, but SPF isn't coded to work that way.

Well... I don't know how popular SPF is beyond the obvious (the number of DLs etc.); nor can I say for sure how popular TinyMCE is. All I can say is that I know I and the users of my little blog/forum would like it if they could see the graphical smileys. I chose your package because they like a large selection to choose from, and fancy and unusual smileys.

If there's serious interest in compatibility, I have no problem working on integration, and if SPF is the forum of choice now, I will certainly start working on integration.

What it looks like it's boiling down to is that I'm going to have to create a TinyMCE module that's separate from TSE, so any plugin that uses the TinyMCE editor will be able to access the TSE button.

I can, however, confirm that selecting custom smileys and adding whichever of the Tango smileys you would like to use will correctly insert clickable smileys. Any smileys that are not added to the custom smiley editor can still be entered as normal text, and TSE will convert those to images as well. The down side is that it would take a very long time to upload each smiley individually, so I only recommend adding those which you know will be used. This would just be a stopgap, since I am going to start working on the TinyMCE module.

I can't say the search has been fruitful, because I still can't figure out how to get the button to move with the rest of the comment box. I'm thinking I may have to revert to the old display method until I can create a module that MCEComments can use natively.

I may be mistaken, but that would break the text entry option, would it not? Because in order to put the smileys directly into SPF I have to select "custom smileys", and then manually insert a text code for each one, rather than selecting "WP smileys," which hooks into your plugin.

OTOH, I don't know if it's worth it for you to take the trouble to get the two to work together seamlessly. I mean, I know that SPF is a very popular forum for WP -- maybe the most popular. But still...

Unfortunately, getting the TSE clickable smileys to show in other plugins is quite a time consuming endeavor. I'll look into what needs to be done to add them to SFP.

The one way I can see right now is to upload the Tango smileys to the SFP smiley editor and add the ones you want to use to the editor, you can select the "custom" option and they should be displayed and clickable.

Umm... Unfortunately yeah. I've got pages enabled both in TSE and CTI and still no smileys. :( Gonna dink with settings some more and see, but so far no luck.

EDIT: Okay, quick update. It would appear that TSE _is_ "enabled" and working, but the clickable feature isn't working. There's a box on the bottom right of each post (I think, I'm still new to SPF myself) where all the smilies are displayed and there's nothing there. But if you hand type in a symbol that TSE recognizes, it will display it when the post is saved and displayed.

It would appear that SPF displays itself as a WordPress page, so having Pages selected in the TSE options will convert the text to smileys without modifications.

Does anybody know how to get the plugin to work with the Simple Press Forum? There's a component setting in SPF that supposedly tells it to "use Wordpress smileys". Tango is supposed to "replace" the default WP smileys, so I thought that the setting would allow SPF to access the Tango smilies, but it doesn't.

Ideas anybody?

Sorry. I haven't gotten any email.

I'm fairly certain that it's the same bug presenting itself two different ways, but it's going to take me some time to figure out how to patch it. It's actually a bug in how the button is being added to MCEComments. No special requirements other than a fairly modern browser.

Just to make sure, when the reply button is clicked, does the comment form move so it's directly below the comment being replied to?

I'll see what I can figure out.

I don´t know why. They can see the botton. But when they click on it nothing happens.
Are there special requirements to Java Versions or something like that?

The second Proble, for everyone!, is following: When somebody writes a Comments there is no Problem. Botton is there and clickable. But when somebody clickes on the "Reply" Botton from a Comment. The Button isn´t there!

- wassereimer

The comment_form function was not created until WordPress 3.0, so I would bet most of the 1400+ themes available from the WordPress repository don't have this, but the ones that do use it are definitely the most up to date. However, your theme author is correct that many comment plugins rely on the hook in the comment form, which was added into a theme by the author for themes prior to WP 3.0.

Either way, the fact is when using comment_form, which is indeed the requirement for new themes submitted to the WordPress repository, there is no way to move the do_action call using the custom parameters of comment_form unless WordPress makes a change to the comment_form function, so you're still left with the two options from here. The Suffusion theme, with all of the parameters it passes, is as close to a manually created form as you can get while still using the comment_form function. There really is nothing your theme author can do without breaking current WordPress guidelines.

I became an answer from the theme author...

While this is generally true, the fact is WordPress has simply created a core function called comment_form which automatically creates the comment form so theme authors don't have to do it manually.

This is not "generally true" - it is the requirement. Read this: http://codex.wordpress.org/Theme_Review#Functionality. See the section where it is said that comment_form has to be used. If you don't submit your theme with comment_form, your theme will not be accepted.

Since your theme doesn't have a manually created comment form, as is the case for the newer themes, there is no way for you to move the do_action line unless you edit the WordPress comment-template.php file directly or manually create the form for your theme.

What are you talking about? Suffusion has a manually created comment form - that is what the use of comment_form with custom parameters does.

A question from me:
By the way: Another plugin is also under the submit button. Its called "Subscribe To "Double-Opt-In" Comments"

Two plugins at the false place.... Is it probably the Theme that cause he proble?

Every theme submitted to the repository today has to use comment_form. Check the default TwentyTen theme - that uses comment_form too. So you will not be able to do what you are trying for the default WP theme too. The only themes that don't follow this approach are the old themes in the repository, which haven't been updated since a long time. The issue here is not a problematic theme - it is that plugins are relying on a hook which standard WP functionality invokes after the submit button. The problem here is that plugins have no defined standards, but themes do.

While this is generally true, the fact is WordPress has simply created a core function called comment_form which automatically creates the comment form so theme authors don't have to do it manually. Inside the WordPress function, there is a call to the do_action function that I was talking about, and it is directly below the submit button. Since your theme doesn't have a manually created comment form, as is the case for the newer themes, there is no way for you to move the do_action line unless you edit the WordPress comment-template.php file directly or manually create the form for your theme.

I don't recommend doing either of these because any update to WordPress or your theme will undo the changes.

Until I can figure out how to inject a button into MCEComments, I'm afraid there's no easy solution. I am certainly still working on it, however, so I'll keep you updated.

I do have an update to publish in about an hour which includes the new smiley box width options and the ability to select any smiley size from 16px to 24px, so that much is done at least.

The answer from the Theme Author to my question where i´ll find hese lines:

You shouldn't use do_action('comment_form'), because it is an outdated way of handling comment forms. WP recommends using the comment_form function (which Suffusion uses in the comments.php file). The comment_form function takes a lot of parameters, one of which is "comment_field". There is HTML markup passed to that parameter, which you can modify to suit your requirements. Again, you will need your plugin author's help to figure out what markup should be added.

I found the bug! It's actually a problem with escaped characters such as single and double quotes partially matching the regex. I have it patched in the upcoming update, but that it won't be published for another day or so. If you want to patch your local copy, open the tse-magic.php file and replace line 19 with:

$tse_content_arr = preg_split( "~(<.*>)|(\&[a-zA-Z0-9#]*;)~U", $tse_content, -1, PREG_SPLIT_DELIM_CAPTURE );

This will allow the pattern to skip escaped characters.

Thanks again for the report!

Have it narrowed down, or shall I continue to hunt for the regex issue?

Edit: This fellow seems to be the specific match (commenting it out removes the error):

array(';\)','wink.png','Wink'),

The ability to add a button to the WYSIWYG editor has eluded me for a while, which is why it is not an option yet. I could not find a clear entry point to the MCEComments plugin for adding new buttons, and I have since stopped looking.

When it comes to the size of the smiley box, there is an undocumented way to resize it automatically. Simply go to the TSE Settings page in the dashboard and change the width to a percentage. It has to be done a specific way, though. To set a percentage as a width, type the number followed by %; .

For example, to set the box to 80%, change the width to 80%; .

If you forget the semicolon, it will not work. Also, 100%; will not work, so if you want full width, use 99%; instead. This will automatically resize the box so it fits within the boundaries of a threaded comment.

Good luck!

Ah Ok, i´ve missunderstod the compatibility to the MCEComments plugin. :)
Can i make a Button into the WYSIWYG Editor? I thnks it´ll be better than the box. :) Or is it possible to make the Smiley-Box flexible? So that it´ll fit to the Area where it is. The problem i mean is the Threated Comments. The box has a fixed width. So the box will explode the design or will be hidden partial when there will be more answers at one comment. :/

I´ve contact the Author of the Theme. Because it´s not a normal theme. It´s very complex. You can change just everything you want. ^^
http://aquoid.com/news/themes/suffusion/

I'll start by addressing your second problem. Both TSE and MCEComments are behaving correctly. I did not design TSE to add a button to MCEComments, so what you're seeing is the correct behavior.

As for the placement of TSE - and other comment related plugins - under your submit button, the placement is actually controlled by your theme. Most of the time this can be changed by editing your theme's comments.php file and moving this line:

<?php do_action('comment_form', $post->ID); ?>

If you move it so it is above <textarea id="comment"> but below <input id="url"> it will move the smiley box as well as any other comment plugin.

Hope this helps.

Hello. :)

First want to say: Thank you for this plugin. :) I love it. :)
I have two problems:

1st: The Smiley-Box ist under the Submit Button. (Also another plugin... Don´t know why.... -.-)
2nd: I use MCEComments, but this plugin doesn´t detect your plugin so that i can add it to it. :/ (When this problem is solved, th 1st you can forget ;D)

http://www.wassereimer.de/2011/06/23/homepage-plugins-pizza/#comments

Thanks for help! :)

wasser
